It appears the charges sustained in Grand Forks, North Dakota by now Wildcat alumnus, Mike Radja, have been dropped.

Future 'Cat Burke Taken In 2008 NHL Entry Draft

New Hampshire native, Greg Burke, was selected as the one hundred and seventy-fourth pick in the 2008 NHL Draft.

The Lee, NH product was taken by the Washington Capitals joining sophomore, Phil DeSimone, as a potential future employee of the nation's capital's hockey team.

Greg is expected to play his final year of junior hockey with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders before matriculating in the fall of 2009.

Two 'Cats Invited To US National Jr. Eval

Sophomore, James van Riemsdyk, and incoming freshman, Blake Kessel, have been invited to the US National Jr. Team Evaluation Camp, Lake Placid, New York.

A selection to the team would see them absent from mid-December through the first week of January for the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship - much like Reemer's absence last season where he was the 2008 tournament's top scorer.

Haydar, Krog... Take to the Diamond?

They were there in the Cup's first official visit since the Championship win and the dynamic duo wehttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifre on hand to deliver the first pitch - no word on how that went but plenty on the Wildcat Alums' incredible careers and season.

2008 Calder Cup Champions - Chicago Wolves

Congratulations Wolves!

Jason Krog led the team with a hat-trick and four-point performance as the Chicago Wolves claimed the Calder Cup last night. I couldn't stay up-to-the-minute on the game due to power-outage - thanks PSNH. The outstanding performance, commonplace for Jason this year, also added to his list of accolades this season with the announcement that he is the 2008 Calder Cup MVP.

Darren Haydar, the Wolves' Captain, was held scoreless in the victory but was obviously a huge factor all along in leading the Wolves to the Cup - Haydar's second in his six year AHL career. He was a +3 on the night.

Krog was far and away the top scorer through the post-season with a 12-26-38 scoring line. Haydar's post-season was good enough for a third place tie with a 12-15-27 line, one point out of second.

Devastated: NHPTV To Cease Airing Games

It was announced on June 6^th, in the title-linked post, that New Hampshire Public Television will no longer broadcast University of New Hampshire Men's Hockey Games.

A sad day for UNH Hockey.

NHPTV was the first public television station to carry college hockey games and has won numerous awards for that coverage.

Thank you NHPTV for all of the years of coverage that I've enjoyed - it goes without saying that the content of this blog will suffer greatly without the resource that you've provided for Wildcat Nation season after season.

In more upbeat news, Brad Flaishans led a group of seven UNH men's hockey players as selections to the Hockey East Academic All-Star Team.

Wolves Going Home

With less than fifteen minutes to play and just one goal on the board to four for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the Chicago Wolves will head home for the last time this year where they will hope to finish the 2007-2008 AHL season by hoisting the Calder Cup in front of the hometown crowd.

Next up, Tuesday, June 10^th at 8:00pm Eastern Time.

Henrion To Skate For USNTDP

John Henrion, according to USHR, will make his way to Ann Arbor, Michigan to join the United States National Team Development Program for the upcoming season.

At 17 years of age as of this January he would qualify for either of the teams, the Under-18's or the Under-17's. He declined an invitation last year in order to play for his hometown Jr. Bruins of the Eastern Junior Hockey League where he led the league in goals as a first year player and a young one at that.

John is due to attend our Alma Mater beginning in the fall of 2009 when he'll be just 18.

Haydar's Duece Fails To Clinch Calder Cup

In a powerplay scoring battle the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins edged the Chicago Wolves, three powerplay goals to two.

The pair of Wolves markers, who were significantly behind in powerplay opportunities the majority of the game, came from the stick of their Captain, Darren Haydar, after having fallen behind by that margin.

Unfortunately the game-winner would come on a Jr. Pens' powerplay with Haydar in the box for tripping at just the 2:21 mark of the third period as the puck caromed off of a Wolves' defenseman's skate.

Haydar moved into a first place tie for goals scored in these Calder Cup Playoffs with twelve and a second place tie for points with twenty-seven. Jason Krog remains first in points with thirty-four, picking up an assist on Haydar's first goal of the night for his twenty-fifth helper.

Additionally the AHL Calder Cup Scoring Record continues to climb with Haydar's stats and now stands at fifty-five goals and one hundred and twenty-four points in ninety-three games.

The Wolves will have another chance at closing out their 2008 Calder Cup campaign tonight in the last game of the season slated for the Wilkes-Barre/Scraton Wachovia Arena - should the series continue, it would go back into the Wolves' Den, Chicago's Allstate Arena.

Wolves Open A 3-0 Lead For Calder Cup

... and open a can of whoop-ass on John Curry and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, scoring five goals in ten minutes and fifty-nine seconds of the second period, erasing the Jr. Pens' early 1-0 lead to go on to the 6-1 win.

Remarkably, Krog and Haydar played a minor role in tonight's win, tallying just one assist apiece on linemate, Jesse Schultz's second goal of the night which was good for a 3-1 lead.

Curry was chased from the game after the bumpy second period which saw him allow five even-strength goals on 19 shots.

The series resumes Friday night, once more in the Jr. Pens' Wachovia Arena.

Darren Haydar: [Insert Superlative Here]

2003 AHL Rookie of the Year. 2007 AHL Scoring Champion. 2007 AHL MVP. Captain. Record setter.

En route to a 4-2 win and a 2-0 series lead today in the AHL's Calder Cup Playoff Finals for his Chicago Wolves, Darren Haydar set the all-time AHL playoff goal-scoring and point records.

Unbelievable. Incredible. Phenomenal.

Darren scored twice in his 91^st AHL playoff game, first to break the goal scoring record with his 52^nd goal (the previous record was held by AHL Hall of Famer Jody Gage who played in 115 games) and the second time to claim the all-time playoff point-getting record, 120 points (previously held by AHL Hall of Famer, Willie Marshall, 112 games, since 1971) and simultaneously raise the goal scoring record to 53. He then went on to add an assist to move the points record to 121 points. Haydar has led the league in playoff scoring in three post-seasons - 2004, 2006 and 2007 - in just 6 seasons (this IS his sixth!).

Jason Krog picked up two more assists to maintain his lead in playoff points (Haydar is third) and John Curry, W-B/S goaltender and BU alum, has allowed nine goals in the first two games of the series.
